BMJ Best Practice expands Comorbidity decision support in United States clinical workflows -

BMJ Best Practice has expanded its Comorbidities Manager to include 75 acute clinical topics, embedding evidence-based guidance for patients with multiple conditions into clinicians’ daily workflows. The expanded coverage addresses high-burden conditions such as heart failure, type 2 diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic kidney disease, atrial fibrillation, and depression.

This development responds to a gap in care, as most existing guidelines focus on single diseases and do not fully account for the complexity of multimorbidity. The Comorbidities Manager integrates current United States guidelines with expert-reviewed evidence, enabling clinicians to make tailored, patient-specific decisions that consider co-existing conditions.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than half of the United States adults live with multiple chronic conditions, yet clinicians often rely on fragmented guidance designed for single conditions. By embedding comorbidity insights into core topics, BMJ Best Practice aims to reduce complexity, support earlier intervention, and improve care coordination.

The platform has also introduced integration with Cleveland Clinic, allowing United States clinicians to record and submit Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Maintenance of Certification (MOC) credits during routine use. This feature reduces administrative burden and aligns professional learning with clinical workflows and certification requirements.

Dr. Kieran Walsh, Clinical Director at BMJ Group, explained that clinicians face the dual challenge of managing complex decisions while meeting professional and regulatory requirements. He noted that BMJ Best Practice addresses this by combining trusted, evidence-based guidance with accredited learning in a single workflow, supporting whole-patient care with greater efficiency.
