The MIT Press has announced the launch of Minds, Machines, and Brains, a new open access journal focused on cognitive computational neuroscience. The publication will cover research at the intersection of cognitive science, artificial intelligence, and neuroscience, aiming to advance theoretical and mechanistic understanding of intelligence and cognition across natural and artificial systems.
The journal will welcome both experimental studies and developments in computational tools and technologies. It is intended to provide a venue for interdisciplinary work that connects across fields and contributes to broader scientific understanding.
The editorial team will include Kendrick Kay, Associate Professor of Radiology at the University of Minnesota; Leyla Isik, Associate Professor of Cognitive Science at Johns Hopkins University; and Ellie Pavlick, Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Linguistics at Brown University. Isik noted that the growth of the Cognitive Computational Neuroscience community since 2017 highlights the need for a dedicated venue for interdisciplinary articles. Kay emphasized that the interdisciplinary nature of the field makes it challenging to find suitable publishing outlets, and the new journal is expected to help address this gap.
