Wolters Kluwer Health has announced the launch of Medi‑Span® Vet Meds, a drug data and screening solution designed to help United States pharmacies incorporate veterinary prescriptions into their existing workflows. The system provides species‑specific medication intelligence to support safe and efficient dispensing for pet owners.
The solution was developed for retail pharmacies, pharmacy partners, and veterinary medication fulfillment organizations. It enables animal‑specific screening at scale, reducing reliance on manual references or human‑focused tools that may not account for veterinary dosing, toxicity, contraindications, or drug interactions.
A Wolters Kluwer survey conducted in July 2026 among 2,000 United States adults found that three out of four pet owners would prefer to fill pet prescriptions at their retail pharmacy. Eighty percent of respondents indicated that access to pet‑specific medication safety information is important when obtaining prescriptions.
Medi‑Span Vet Meds builds on the long‑standing Medi‑Span suite of drug databases and APIs, which have been used across healthcare for more than five decades. The veterinary solution applies structured, machine‑readable drug data and species‑specific screening rules, supported by governed clinical data stewardship processes, to deliver consistent and repeatable screening in enterprise dispensing environments.
