The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) and BIO Ventures for Global Health (BVGH) have announced the launch of a 10‑session digital lecture series on scientific writing. The program is designed to support scientists worldwide, with an initial focus on preparing peer‑reviewed manuscripts. It aims to address gaps in professional development, particularly for researchers in low‑resource settings, where opportunities to strengthen general skills such as manuscript preparation remain limited.
The series will cover topics including journal selection and publication processes, strategies for writing manuscript sections such as introductions, methods, and results, development of figures and tables, authorship and ethical considerations, and the use of artificial intelligence in scientific writing. Each session will last 90 minutes and include a question‑and‑answer segment.
Speakers represent diverse geographic and cultural backgrounds and include experts with extensive publication records as well as current ASM journal editors, who will provide insights into the editorial and peer‑review process. Confirmed speakers include Sharjeel Chaudry (Dow University of Health Sciences, Pakistan), Neelika Malavige (University of Sri Jayawardenapura, Sri Lanka), Marcio Rodrigues (Fiocruz, Brazil), Sarah Fankhauser (Oxford College of Emory University, U.S.), Tatiana Castro Abreu Pinto (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), and Wil Ngwa (Johns Hopkins University, U.S.).
The first session is scheduled for Thursday, September 3, at 11 a.m. U.S. Eastern Time / 3 p.m. UTC. Registration is free for all participants.
Certificates of Completion will be awarded to individuals who complete the pre‑ and post‑course exams and attend at least one lecture live. Certificates of Completion with Merit will be granted to those who complete the pre‑course exam, achieve a score of 70 percent or higher on the post‑course exam, and attend at least 65 percent of the lectures live via Zoom or through the BVGH Learn platform.
