Springer Nature and Lyrasis expand Transformative Agreement to support U.S. researchers -

Springer Nature has expanded its Transformative Agreement (TA) with Lyrasis, adding 11 new member institutions to the four‑year deal. The agreement now covers 130 institutions, including nine Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and is expected to support the publication of around 2,000 articles annually. Participating institutions also gain read access to more than 2,300 titles, broadening the reach and impact of the partnership.

The agreement builds on the collaboration that began in 2024, enabling researchers to publish and access work more widely. The newly added institutions include Bowdoin College, Franklin & Marshall College, Georgia Institute of Technology, Hackensack Meridian Health, Loyola University Chicago, North Carolina State University, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Suffolk University, University of Georgia, University of Nebraska – Kearney, and University of Nebraska – Omaha.

Maria Lopes, Springer Nature’s Vice President of Institutional Sales for North America, Latin America, and the Caribbean, noted that the expansion reflects the publisher’s ongoing commitment to open research and to supporting researchers in contributing to global scientific knowledge. She emphasized that greater accessibility fosters collaboration, supports new discoveries, and strengthens trust in science.

Celeste Feather, Senior Director of Content and Scholarly Communication Initiatives at Lyrasis, explained that the expansion represents a community investment. She highlighted that researchers at the additional institutions will be able to publish their articles in Open Access, increasing both the reach and impact of their work. She added that the collaboration among diverse institutions advances equity and inclusion in scholarly communication.
