The Company of Biologists has renewed its Read & Publish Open Access agreement with the South African National Library and Information Consortium (SANLiC) for a further three years, extending a successful collaboration first established in South Africa with the support of its regional representative, Worldwide Information Services (WWIS).
Running from January 1, 2027, to December 31, 2029, the agreement allows corresponding authors at participating institutions to publish an unlimited number of research articles immediately Open Access in the Company’s hybrid journals (Development, Journal of Cell Science, and Journal of Experimental Biology) as well as its fully Open Access titles (Disease Models & Mechanisms and Biology Open) without paying article processing charges (APCs). In addition, researchers will continue to enjoy unrestricted access to the hybrid journals, including their archives dating back to 1853.
Shelly Turner, Sales & Marketing Director at The Company of Biologists, noted that the renewal builds on the success of the existing collaboration with SANLiC and the partnership with WWIS. She emphasized that the extended agreement ensures unlimited access to journal content while enabling researchers to publish fee-free, thereby promoting wider dissemination, enhancing citation potential, and advancing open science across South Africa.
Lindiwe Soyizwapi, Chairperson of the SANLiC Board, highlighted that the renewal demonstrates The Company of Biologists’ commitment to making biological research accessible to all.
