JMIR Publications has announced the appointment of Dr. Sebastian Spethmann as the new editor in chief of JMIR Cardio.
Dr. Spethmann, serves as deputy director of the Department of Cardiology, Angiology, and Intensive Care Medicine at Campus Mitte, Deutsches Herzzentrum der Charité (DHZC), Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. He is also co‑speaker of the Amyloidosis Centre Berlin Charité (ACCB).
His clinical expertise includes heart failure, cardiomyopathies, structural heart disease, and cardiovascular imaging. His academic work focuses on integrating innovation into real‑world cardiovascular medicine, with emphasis on access to care, digital cardiology such as telemedicine, health services research, and amyloidosis. His primary research interest lies in incorporating digital advancements into routine clinical practice and examining how digital transitions can strengthen cardiovascular health systems and patient outcomes.
JMIR Publications noted that his appointment reflects the journal’s commitment to advancing cardiovascular research and digital health scholarship. The organization expressed anticipation for productive collaboration under his leadership.
