The American Medical Association (AMA) has announced the appointment of Jennifer Goldsack as senior vice president and inaugural leader of the AMA Center for Digital Health and AI. Goldsack joins the organization from the Digital Medicine Society (DiMe), a nonprofit she founded and led as CEO, which is recognized globally for advancing digital medicine to improve health outcomes.
Goldsack is widely regarded for her work in promoting the responsible adoption of digital health and artificial intelligence in healthcare. She has consistently emphasized the importance of aligning evidence, clinical practice, technology, and policy to ensure that digital innovations are safe, effective, equitable, and valuable for both patients and physicians. Under her leadership, the AMA and DiMe recently introduced a framework outlining enduring responsibilities for physicians in the evolving digital health and AI landscape.
Since founding DiMe in 2019, Goldsack has overseen the creation of frameworks for evaluating sensor‑based measures, which have been cited by regulatory agencies such as the FDA and the European Medicines Agency. She also established collaborative communities with FDA participation to advance digital measurement and connected health, and introduced the DiMe Seal, an evidence‑based evaluation framework for digital health software recognized by CMS as a pathway to its Medicare App Library. These initiatives have expanded access to high‑quality digital health tools for Medicare beneficiaries and supported reimbursement and implementation of virtual‑first care.
Goldsack’s contributions extend across science, policy, and healthcare. She serves on the board of Sage Bionetworks, participates in the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Roundtable on Genomics and Precision Health, contributes to the World Economic Forum’s Digital Health Action Collaborative, and is a member of the Executive Committee of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics.
Her earlier career included leadership roles at the Clinical Trials Transformation Initiative (CTTI), where she advanced digital health initiatives and co‑led the first randomized clinical trial using FDA’s Sentinel System. She also conducted outcomes and clinical research at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, helped establish a pragmatic research and innovation center within a health system, and worked with digital health startups.
Since its launch last year, the AMA Center for Digital Health and AI has produced research including surveys of physician use of AI, which indicated growing confidence in its clinical benefits, and an international survey on wearables that highlighted enthusiasm for the technology alongside barriers to its broader adoption in patient care.
Goldsack holds a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Oxford, a master’s in the history and sociology of medicine from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MBA from George Washington University. She is also a retired elite athlete, having competed as a Pan American Games champion, Olympian, world record holder, and World Championship silver medalist.
