The American Physical Society (APS) has announced the appointment of Ariel Amir as Chief Editor of PRX Life, effective September 1, 2026.
Amir is a professor at the Weizmann Institute of Science, where he leads the Department of Physics of Complex Systems and directs the Clore Center for Biological Physics. He earned his bachelor’s degree in physics and mathematics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, followed by a master’s and doctorate in condensed matter physics from Weizmann. Before joining Weizmann, he was a junior fellow and later a faculty member at Harvard University. He was named an APS Fellow in 2025.
Amir’s research focuses on the physics of living systems, working at the intersection of physics, applied mathematics, and biology. His group applies principles from statistical physics, stochastic processes, and mathematical modeling to connect molecular interactions with cellular behaviors, aiming to develop frameworks that explain how cells function and reveal underlying principles.
APS noted that Amir brings a distinctive perspective to PRX Life and expressed appreciation to Margaret Gardel, who served as interim Chief Editor prior to his appointment.
