Springer Nature has announced the appointment of Patric Somlo as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and member of the Management Board, effective November 1, 2026.
Somlo joins from Lonza Group AG, a publicly listed global provider of development and manufacturing services to pharmaceutical and biotech companies, where he currently serves as Senior Vice President of Corporate Finance. His career includes roles in private equity, management consulting, and investment banking. He holds an MSc in Computer Science with a specialization in machine learning from ETH Zurich and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
Stefan von Holtzbrinck, Chairman of Springer Nature’s Supervisory Board, noted that Somlo’s experience in publicly listed and science‑based global businesses positions him well to guide the company through its next phase of development. He emphasized the Board’s anticipation of benefiting from Somlo’s insights and leadership.
Somlo succeeds Alexandra Dambeck, who is leaving the company to take up a new external role, as announced earlier in the year.
Frank Vrancken Peeters, Chief Executive Officer of Springer Nature, stated that the company’s mission is to support progress by helping researchers, educators, and health professionals share knowledge. He highlighted Somlo’s background in research‑driven industries, his record of delivering results in complex environments, and his expertise in AI‑enabled transformation as valuable assets for the company’s continued growth.
The Board and Executive Management Team extended their gratitude to Alexandra Dambeck for her significant contributions during her tenure as CFO.
