JMIR Publications and ZB MED – Information Centre for Life Sciences have extended their Flat‑Fee Unlimited Open Access Publishing Agreement for two years, continuing the partnership until December 31, 2028.
The agreement, originally set to conclude at the end of 2026, allows participating German research institutions to continue publishing in JMIR’s portfolio of more than 30 Gold Open Access journals without Article Processing Charges (APCs). The portfolio includes 25 journals with a Journal Impact Factor, twelve of which are ranked in Q1. Eight institutions are currently part of the arrangement, and all ZB MED members are invited to join in 2027.
JMIR Publications indicated that the renewal highlights the importance of institutional funding in sustaining independent, fully open‑access publishers. The organization stated that ZB MED’s participation demonstrates how institutions can preserve diversity in scholarly publishing while ensuring seamless access for life sciences researchers.
Eligible authors can continue to benefit from APC waivers by listing their participating institution and using their official institutional email address during submission. The agreement includes publishing across JMIR’s portfolio, notably the Journal of Medical Internet Research.
