MDPI has announced the appointment of Dr. Constanze Schelhorn as its Chief Publishing Officer (CPO). The role reflects the publisher’s focus on strengthening strategic leadership and governance across its expanding portfolio of more than 550 journals, at a time when scholarly publishing is becoming increasingly complex.
Dr. Schelhorn noted that MDPI’s recent milestone of 30 years in open access publishing makes this a significant moment to assume the position. She emphasized that the scholarly publishing landscape is evolving rapidly, with both opportunities and challenges, and expressed her intention to work with colleagues and external partners to continue developing publishing practices and supporting research communities.
Since joining MDPI in 2016, Dr. Schelhorn has held several editorial and publishing roles. In 2023, she advanced to leadership positions, first as Head of Indexing and later as Head of Publishing, before being appointed CPO. She holds a master’s degree in physics from the University of Würzburg and completed her PhD at the Technical University of Munich in collaboration with the Institute for Research in Biomedicine Barcelona.
