Turkish Scholarly Publishing Association begins activities during Open Access Week -

The Turkish Scholarly Publishing Association (Akademik Yayıncılık Derneği – AKYAD) has been established to unite academic publishing stakeholders in Türkiye, raise standards, and strengthen collaboration across the sector.

The association begins its activities at a time when digitalization and open access models are expanding globally. Its stated aim is to address structural challenges faced by journals, editors, authors, reviewers, and researchers.

AKYAD’s areas of focus include monitoring international publishing standards, promoting ethical principles, increasing the visibility of journals in international indexes, and organizing professional training programs.

Following its founding general assembly and elections, AKYAD is holding its first event in partnership with EASE Türkiye during International Open Access Week, celebrated from October 19–25, 2026. The online event will take place under the global theme “The Cost of Knowledge” and will examine commercial publishing dynamics and the role of academic labor.
