MDPI expands Institutional Open Access Program through CCCU and SCIO partnership -

MDPI has entered into a global partnership with the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) and Scholarship and Christianity in Oxford (SCIO), the UK subsidiary of CCCU. Beginning in October 2026, more than 170 participating institutions will join MDPI’s Institutional Open Access Program (IOAP). The agreement has no specified end date and provides participating institutions with ongoing access to program benefits.

The partnership offers discounts on article processing charges (APCs) across MDPI’s journal portfolio, as well as on processing fees for MDPI Books, Language Editing Services, and the Journal Article Management System (JAMS). Participating institutions will also have access to a dedicated dashboard that provides real-time information about articles submitted by their researchers, including article metadata, COUNTER 5.1-compliant data, downloadable reports, and details of editorial engagement.

The participating institutions are located in 22 countries, including the United States (131 institutions), Canada (9), and Kenya (4), among others. MDPI indicated that a complete list of participating institutions would be available on the IOAP website.

In February 2026, MDPI announced that more than 1,000 partners had joined the Institutional Open Access Program. According to the publisher, more than 61,300 research articles received APC discounts through the program in 2025. The new agreement extends the program to additional institutions affiliated with CCCU and SCIO, providing access to discounted open access publishing services.
