The editorial board of ESAIM: Probability and Statistics (ESAIM: PS) has announced a temporary suspension of new manuscript submissions from October 19 through November 8, 2026. The journal will resume accepting new submissions on November 9, 2026.
The measure is part of a coordinated initiative involving five other international journals in probability and statistics: Electronic Journal of Probability (EJP), Electronic Communications in Probability (ECP), Stochastic Processes and their Applications (SPA), Bernoulli, and Annales de l'Institut Henri Poincaré, Probabilités et Statistiques (AIHP).
The initiative responds to a substantial increase in manuscript submissions across the discipline, driven largely by the rapid development of artificial intelligence. The growing volume of submissions has placed additional pressure on editorial boards and peer reviewers, making it more difficult to manage workloads while maintaining thorough and fair review processes.
Maintaining the integrity of scientific publishing requires editors, reviewers, authors, and publishers to uphold rigorous standards. Increasing editorial workloads have raised concerns about the capacity of journals to sustain effective peer review without compromising the quality and fairness of editorial decisions.
During the suspension, the ESAIM: PS editorial board will review its editorial policies and guidelines, including the journal's aims and scope and its guidance on the use of AI by authors and reviewers. The board will also consider measures to manage the growing number of submissions while maintaining editorial standards.
The suspension applies only to new manuscripts. Authors may continue to submit revised versions of manuscripts already under review, and existing editorial and peer-review processes will proceed as usual.
ESAIM: PS will resume accepting new manuscript submissions on November 9, 2026.
