Citations are a tool by which publishers can monitor and evaluate the success of their publishing programme. In a journal publishing context, the term bibliometrics is most commonly used to refer to the analysis of citations between journal articles. This course provides an overview of bibliometrics with particular reference to journal metrics such as the Impact Factor, Eigenfactor, and SNIP indicator. Specific attention will be given to characteristics and differences between citation indexes, and the workshop will include extensive hands-on use of these products, including an illustration of the types of analysis which can be derived from these data sources.
