As the publishing landscape moves towards a more open model, publishers are exploring different open access business models. Diamond Open Access (OA) is one model that is particularly prolific in Latin and South America. Diamond OA journals allow authors to publish their work without paying the Article Processing Charges, which are then paid by an institution, the journal itself, or a society. In this region, Diamond OA is the most prevalent model with a long history of development, since the creation of the Scielo network 25 years ago.
The aim of this webinar is to explore both the importance of the Diamond OA model to overcome economic constraints/disparities in making scientific research produced in Latin America visible, and the different strategies commercial and non-profit publishers are using to advance this model in the region.
