Balisage: The Markup Conference 2025, a virtual, technical, and interactive event taking place from August 4th to 8th, 2025. As an annual conference dedicated to descriptive markup, Balisage explores its effective use, its implications for technology and information access, and preservation of information for the future. Balisage 2025 will feature insights from developers and implementers, case studies, and novel ideas in markup, including topics such as: maintainable XSLT conversions, processing overlap and discontinuity with new markup language types, introducing Invisible XML to undergraduates, an analysis of the Semantic Web's failure, versioning in XML for content management systems, using Schematron as an XSLT interface, processing XQuery with custom module URI resolvers, leveraging XML in prompts to mitigate LLM hallucinations, modern processing of historical narrative recipes, and native Python support for XML.
