The webinar, "Cataloging & Metadata Competencies in Practice," will present new research on the Core Competencies for Cataloging and Metadata Professional Librarians. Based on a 2024 study, the program will explore how practitioners understand and apply these competencies in their daily work. The study, to be published in Library Resources and Technical Services, surveyed professionals on their understanding of theoretical concepts and the frequency with which they perform specific tasks outlined in the Core Competencies. By analyzing demographics such as library type and years of experience, the research provides insights into how different groups of practitioners engage with the competencies. Attendees will gain a better understanding of which competencies are used frequently and with confidence, and which may require further professional development or training.
