AAAS to move Science journals to new online platform to enhance user experience -

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the world’s largest general scientific society and publisher of the Science family of journals, will be moving all its online content to Atypon’s online publishing platform, Literatum for a better user experience. With this move, AAAS seeks to make all content across the Science family of journals more integrated, discoverable, and visually compelling for the reader.

The initiative, expected to be completed by Summer of 2021, comprises all of Science’s content, including the archives from 1880, research and commentary in Science Translational Medicine, Science Signaling, Science Immunology, and Science Robotics, and the open-access journal Science Advances, as well as news from Science, Science Careers, blog, video, podcast, and custom publishing content.

AAAS has gone for a top-to-bottom redesign which allows users to browse and discover content easily. The enhanced visibility makes it easy for references and figures in research articles. The new platform allows users to personalize the site through bookmarking and saved searches.

According to AAAS, the new site will make Science’s popular news, careers, podcast, and video content discoverable and interconnected helping the Washington-based scientific society to advance and communicate science.

All posts on the Editor’s Blog, which comments on content in the Science family journals and ideas in the scientific enterprise, will now be made more prominent on the site, as will posts from the Visuals Blog reflecting the vision behind the Science design, graphics, photography, and multimedia teams.

Authors who publish in the AAAS journal will get increased internal efficiency and flexibility that will help journal editors and production teams to meet the needs of the research community rapidly.
