The American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) has appointed Dr. Naga Chalasani of Indiana University School of Medicine, and Dr. Laura E. Nagy of Cleveland Clinic, as the next Co-Editors-in-Chief of HEPATOLOGY. The journal publishes original, peer-reviewed research across the full spectrum of hepatology, including immunology, chronic and viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, metabolic liver diseases, liver cancer, alcohol-associated liver disease, and drug metabolism.
HEPATOLOGY’s Editorial Board reviews significant advances in basic, translational, and clinical science each month. AASLD leadership underscores the journal’s influence in shaping future directions in liver research and highlights the incoming editors’ scientific leadership, editorial experience, and commitment to advancing the field.
Dr. Chalasani serves as the David W. Crabb Professor of Medicine and Director of the Terance Kahn Liver Research Program at Indiana University School of Medicine. His research focuses on metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and drug-induced liver injury (DILI). He is a founding principal investigator of multiple NIH-funded networks, including the NASH Clinical Research Network and the Drug-Induced Liver Injury Network, and serves as principal investigator for the HIV NASH CRN. He is an elected member of several scientific societies, including the American Association of Physicians and the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India).
Dr. Nagy is Professor of Molecular Medicine at Cleveland Clinic and directs the Liver Disease Research Center at the Lerner Research Institute. Her research examines innate immunity and signal transduction in MASLD and alcohol-associated liver disease. She is principal investigator for the NIAAA-funded P50 Northern Ohio Alcohol Research Center and previously served as Associate Editor for HEPATOLOGY and Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research.
The incoming editors outlined a joint vision to position HEPATOLOGY as a leading global journal in liver research, emphasizing responsiveness to stakeholders and a diverse, internationally recognized editorial team. They will begin reviewing submissions in July 2026 ahead of a five-year term beginning January 2027.
