Academic Alliance Foundation publishes medical textbook on the management of HIV/AIDS -

The Academic Alliance Foundation (AAF), US, has announced that it has published the first medical textbook, Global HIV/AIDS Medicine, aimed at a comprehensive approach to the management of HIV/AIDS as a global problem. The book reflects a changing landscape in HIV/AIDS prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, with particular emphasis on the realities of HIV/AIDS in resource limited settings.

By bringing in new global expertise and openly addressing the challenges of prevention and care in diverse resource limited settings, Global HIV/AIDS reflects growing recognition of the need to train medical professionals to treat the epidemic on the stage on which it often unfolds. The book features current guidance and realities of HIV/AIDS management by geographical region; the ability to diagnose AIDS manifestations by comparing them to full-colour clinical images; and tables that allow a practitioner to quickly gather, compare and review essential data.

A not-for-profit corporation, AAF seeks to overcome the burden of infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa by building healthcare capacity and strengthening academic medical institutions. AAF was born out of unique partnership between senior North American academic physician-researchers in the field of infectious disease, their counterparts on the Faculty of Medicine at Uganda's famed Makerere University, and others motivated to find innovative solutions to combat infectious disease in sub-Saharan Africa and strengthen Africa for future generations.
