ACM to Publish Theory and Practice of Logic Programming -

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Association for Logic Programming (ALP) have entered into a long-term publishing agreement for ALP’s official journal, Theory and Practice of Logic Programming (TPLP). Beginning January 1, 2027, ACM will assume responsibility for publishing the journal, with the full archive of papers dating back to 2001 made openly accessible through the ACM Digital Library.

Previously published by Cambridge University Press, TPLP is a leading international venue for refereed papers spanning both theoretical and practical aspects of logic programming. Its scope includes artificial intelligence applications, natural language processing, knowledge representation, non-monotonic reasoning, databases, implementations and architectures, and constraint logic programming. Interest in the field has grown significantly in recent years, reflecting its foundational role in many areas of AI.

ALP President Enrico Pontelli emphasized that selecting a new publishing partner for TPLP was a highly consequential decision, noting that the journal is regarded as indispensable by ALP’s 1,500-member research community. He observed that hosting the journal on the ACM Digital Library would provide global exposure and engagement, helping to usher the discipline into a new era.

Scott Delman, ACM’s Director of Publications, highlighted that ACM’s transition to a fully Open Access publisher has been a defining achievement in recent years. He explained that while expanding access has been a priority, ACM remains committed to offering members high-quality, relevant resources to support their research. Delman noted that TPLP has established itself as an internationally recognized journal over its 25 years of publication, and that ACM has not previously had a title dedicated to the logic programming niche—an area of growing importance in applications such as neurosymbolic AI. He expressed optimism about a long and productive partnership with ALP on TPLP.

ACM currently publishes more than 70 peer-reviewed journals across computing and information technology disciplines. Its portfolio constitutes a comprehensive archive of innovation, covering both emerging and established areas of research. With an emphasis on rapid publication and editorial leadership from thought leaders in the field, ACM journals provide timely and impactful platforms for advancing knowledge.
