ACS Publications joins panel on open access and preprints at Researcher to Reader 2025 -

A recording of the panel discussion titled “Open Access, Preprints, and the Future of Research Communication”, held at the 2025 Researcher to Reader conference, is now available on YouTube.

The panel examined developments in open access, particularly the role of institutional agreements in facilitating uptake among authors over the past decade. While such agreements have expanded participation, the discussion noted concerns about global disparities and the potential for these models to reinforce existing inequities associated with traditional publisher deals.

Panelists reviewed alternative models designed to increase both access to published articles and opportunities for authors to publish open access. The conversation addressed the progress of these initiatives, the difficulties in creating equitable approaches, and broader questions around sustainability and bibliodiversity.

Representatives from publishing and funding organizations contributed to the session, including participants from ACS Publications, the American Physical Society, the Gates Foundation, and ChemRxiv. The panel focused on how different stakeholders are responding to ongoing challenges and changes in scholarly communication infrastructure.

The recorded panel is available for public viewing via the Researcher to Reader conference channel on YouTube.
