In a significant move to bolster support for researchers in the open science landscape, AIP Publishing proudly announces the expansion of its array of open access Creative Commons licenses. These new licensing options provide authors with more nuanced choices regarding how their work is utilized, ensuring greater flexibility and control over their scholarly output.
The two new options introduced by AIP Publishing are:
• CC-BY-NC (Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial): This license allows individuals to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material for non-commercial purposes only, provided proper attribution is given to the creator.
• CC BY-NC-ND (Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives): Under this license, individuals can copy and distribute the material in its original form only, strictly for non-commercial purposes. Attribution to the creator is required.
These licenses complement AIP Publishing's existing CC BY (Creative Commons Attribution) license, which permits individuals to distribute, remix, adapt, or build upon the material in any medium or format, including commercial use, without seeking approval from the creator, as long as proper attribution is provided.
By offering this expanded slate of options, AIP Publishing empowers authors to dictate how their work is represented and used commercially while ensuring free and immediate access to information for the scholarly research community.
Authors publishing open access with AIP Publishing, whether through open access journals or via Author Select in subscription journals, will have the opportunity to select the preferred license for their work. It is encouraged that authors thoroughly research the available licensing options to ensure alignment with funder requirements and personal preferences.
Despite AIP Publishing serving as the publisher for the original article's version of record upon open access publication, copyright remains with the author. Authors are encouraged to promptly share accepted versions of their work on personal or institutional webpages and deposit the accepted version in designated repositories, in accordance with institutional or funder guidelines.
