AIP Publishing outlines compliance guidance for updated NIH Public Access Policy -

In preparation for the revised U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) Public Access Policy taking effect on July 1, 2025, AIP Publishing has outlined measures to support NIH-funded researchers in meeting the new open access requirements without incurring additional costs.

Under the updated policy, all NIH-funded research must be made publicly accessible in PubMed Central (PMC) immediately upon publication. AIP Publishing has confirmed that its existing open access pathways already enable authors to comply with this mandate.

Authors publishing under AIP Publishing’s Green Open Access policy may self-archive their Accepted Author Manuscripts (AAMs) in repositories such as PMC as soon as their work is accepted, without any embargo period. This provision allows authors to make their work publicly accessible through a funder-compliant mechanism at no extra charge.

For fully Gold Open Access journals, AIP Publishing will continue to manage article deposits into PMC on behalf of authors, ensuring public access is granted at the time of publication and providing PMCIDs as per standard practice. In the case of hybrid subscription journals, authors retain the ability to deposit their AAMs using the NIH Manuscript Submission System, with AIP Publishing offering structured guidance to support proper compliance.

The publisher has emphasized that regardless of whether an article appears in a fully open access or hybrid journal, authors will remain compliant with the NIH policy, facilitating broader dissemination of their work upon publication.

Further details on AIP Publishing’s open access options and compliance support are available through its official communication channels.
