The American Institute of Physics (AIP) has announced the appointment of Kandis Boyd to its Board of Directors, effective January 23. Boyd brings over 30 years of experience in federal science operations, academia, and the private sector to her new role.
A fellow of the American Meteorological Society (AMS), Boyd has held leadership positions, including serving as president of the Federal Executive Institute Alumni Association (FEIAA). She has also contributed to various boards and councils over the past 15 years.
Boyd’s distinguished career began as an intern at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, where she developed research for the Tropical Ocean-Global Atmosphere Coupled Ocean-Atmosphere Response Experiment (TOGA COARE). Her career trajectory has led to senior executive roles, including executive officer for NOAA’s National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service, and deputy director for NOAA’s Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research.
The AIP Board of Directors plays a key role in providing strategic leadership to advance the future of physical sciences. It includes the chair, AIP CEO, corporate secretary, one director from each Member Society, and up to four at-large directors. Boyd’s wealth of experience will be invaluable in shaping AIP’s strategic direction in the years ahead.
