ALPSP, CUJS, and Charlesworth launch new training course to advance scholarly publishing in China -

The Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) has announced the launch of an innovative training course specifically designed for scholarly publishers in China. Titled 'The Very Latest in Open Access in China and Around the Globe,' this course aims to provide valuable insights into open science, open research, open data, and the future prospects of open access (OA) in China.

Scheduled for July 6 from 19:00-21:00 (Beijing time), the training session will be delivered via Zoom, allowing participants to engage in real-time discussions and Q&A sessions. ALPSP has partnered with the Chinese University Journals Society (CUJS) and the Charlesworth Group to adapt its training program to cater to the specific needs of the Chinese market.

The course will commence with an ALPSP presentation that intertwines open science, open data, and OA, offering participants an overview of major policies implemented in the United States and Europe. It will explore the implications of these policies for the publishing industry and provide an in-depth analysis of various types of OA, including insights into the US Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and Europe's cOAlition S.

Scarlett Hao, Head of Sales in China at Charlesworth, will present case studies on Charlesworth's OA deals with prominent institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Tsinghua University. She will discuss the emergence and development of OA in China, Chinese researchers' awareness of OA and their publication practices, the OA model adopted by Chinese journals, China's open data initiatives and platforms, as well as international collaborations in the field of OA.

Furthermore, Professor Tieming Zhang, Chair at CUJS, will share insights into the evolution and progress of OA in China, emphasizing the awareness of Chinese researchers regarding OA, the publication of OA papers, the OA model adopted by Chinese journals, China's open data initiatives and platforms, and international cooperation efforts in the OA sphere. The discussion will also shed light on future developments in OA.
