The American Medical Association (AMA), the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), and Race Forward have joined forces to announce the launch of Rise to Health: A National Coalition for Equity in Healthcare. This ground breaking initiative, co-led by the AMA and IHI, aims to foster a comprehensive and system-wide approach to health equity. With support from collaborators including Race Forward, the Rise to Health Coalition envisions transforming the healthcare ecosystem to ensure that everyone has the means, circumstances, and resources to achieve optimal health.
Recognizing the need for coordinated action and impactful strategies to advance equity in healthcare, the Rise to Health Coalition invites individuals and organizations to work together toward the common goal of aligning healthcare for the betterment of health outcomes.
To bring their vision to life, the coalition is designed to: Mobilize and equip individuals, healthcare organizations, and industry actors in the healthcare sector with concrete skills and tools; Foster a sustainable change in mindsets and narratives within healthcare; and Influence and fundamentally transform policy, payment models, education, standards, and practices.
Through aligned activities, the Rise to Health Coalition will unite various sectors within the healthcare industry to achieve a greater impact. This includes engaging healthcare organizations, individual physicians and healthcare professionals, payers, pharmaceutical and biotech organizations, research institutions, and professional societies to collaborate on prioritizing health equity and addressing systemic disparities. As a first step, members publicly commit to taking actions that improve healthcare access, workforce diversity, social and structural drivers of health, and the quality and safety of care. These actions may involve eliminating race-based clinical algorithms, identifying and addressing inequities through harm event reporting, applying quality and safety methods to address disparities, advancing equitable benefits and networks, and promoting access and affordability for therapeutics.
The Rise to Health Coalition will also provide members with tools and resources to support their efforts in advancing, strengthening, and aligning current health equity initiatives. These resources include virtual peer-to-peer learning, networking opportunities, and technical assistance support.
