STM publisher Springer, Germany has announced that seven of its editors and editorial or advisory board members were the recipients of awards administered by the American Chemical Society (ACS) for 2008. The recipients were honored at the ACS national meeting in New Orleans on April 8, 2008.
The Herbert C. Brown Award for Creative Research in Synthetic Methods was presented to Eric N. Jacobsen, editor of Comprehensive Asymmetric Catalysis. Accepting the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award, which recognises and encourages excellence in organic chemistry, was Dieter Enders, board member of Topics in Heterocyclic Chemistry.
Susan V. Olesik, member of the Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry advisory board, received the ACS Award for Encouraging Disadvantaged Students into Careers in the Chemical Sciences. The Arthur W. Adamson Award for Distinguished Service in the Advancement of Surface Chemistry was awarded to Francisco Zaera, who is on the editorial board of Topics in Catalysis and Catalysis Letters. Israel Wachs, editorial board member of Topics in Catalysis and Catalysis Letters, was honored with the George A. Olah Award in Hydrocarbon or Petroleum Chemistry. This prize recognises, encourages, and stimulates outstanding research achievements in hydrocarbon or petroleum chemistry.
