The American Chemical Society (ACS) is taking significant strides towards a sustainable future with the introduction of two new grants and three awards that resonate with the ACS Board of Directors’ Campaign for a Sustainable Future, unveiled in 2022. This campaign is dedicated to advancing chemistry innovations that address the challenges outlined in the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals.
The ACS is firmly committed to promoting sustainability research, and these newly established grants and awards embody that commitment by encouraging researchers and educators to contribute to a more sustainable world.
The Early Career Postdoctoral-Faculty Bridge Grant is a bold initiative offering up to $125,000 over two years to establish research teams focused on sustainability. With a submission deadline of September 15 at 5 p.m. EDT, this grant aims to accelerate collaborative research endeavors. Similarly, the Principal Investigator Development in Sustainability Grant provides up to $50,000 to support sabbaticals that enable researchers to collaborate with experts in interdisciplinary fields. Submissions for this grant are due by November 15 at 5 p.m. EST. Those interested in these grants can seek more information by contacting sustainabilitygrants@acs.org.
For educators dedicated to promoting green chemistry and sustainability education, the ACS has introduced three awards that celebrate excellence in the field. The Rising Stars in Green Chemistry Education Award recognizes early career scholars with a $1,000 honorarium and offers them a platform to present their impactful work at the annual Green Chemistry and Engineering (GC&E) Conference. The Teaching Green Fellowship Award supports educators with $10,000 for a faculty summer salary and $5,000 for summer student stipend(s), fostering the development of green chemistry and sustainability curricular materials. The Career Achievement in Green Chemistry Education Award grants $5,000 to individuals for their outstanding contributions to innovative chemistry education. Recipients of this award will be honored with a dedicated symposium at the GC&E conference. Submissions for all awards are due by September 15 at 11:59 p.m. EDT, and inquiries can be directed to gci@acs.org.
