The American College of Cardiology has announced the December 2015 launch of a new journal JACC: Basic Translational Research. Dr. Douglas L. Mann has been named Editor-in-Chief of the new journal, which will be published monthly as an open access journal.
The latest JACC journal will serve as a forum for advancing the field of translational cardiovascular medicine and as a platform for accelerating the translation of novel scientific discoveries into new therapies that improve clinical outcomes for patients affected with cardiovascular disease.
Mann is the Lewin Chair and Professor of Medicine, Cell Biology and Physiology, and Chief of the Division of Cardiology at the Washington University School of Medicine. He is also Cardiologist in Chief at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He has been engaged in translational research for over two decades, with his primary research interest being the molecular and cellular basis of heart failure, with particular emphasis on the role of innate immunity in disease progression and recovery of the failing heart.
The American College of Cardiology is a 49,000-member medical society that is the professional home for the entire cardiovascular care team. The mission of the College is to transform cardiovascular care and to improve heart health. The ACC leads in the formation of health policy, standards and guidelines. The College operates national registries to measure and improve care, provides professional medical education, disseminates cardiovascular research and bestows credentials upon cardiovascular specialists who meet stringent qualifications.
