The American Institute of Physics (AIP) has announced the launch of a new eBooks site for ASME. AIP has made numerous new enhancements to its eBooks platform, designed to lend support to the marketing of recent ASME Press titles and ASME Handbooks & Manuals. By end of 2010, ASME's catalogue of eBooks hosted on AIP's Scitation C3 platform will reach nearly 100.
In addition to the features developed at ASME's request, AIP recently added other new features including the ability to download citations in a variety of formats, such as Bibtex, Endnote, and COinS; incorporation of OpenURL, a technology for linking web users to library catalogue resources; and the ability to e-mail an excerpt of a chapter. These features have been rolled into sites AIP hosts for SPIE and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists.
AIP's Scitation publishing platform hosts 2,000,000 articles from 200 scholarly publications for 28 learned society publishers in physics, chemistry, geosciences, engineering, acoustics, and other sciences. Scitation's evolving next-generation platform, C3, represents today's best-of-breed technology, with an XML foundation and flexible framework for multichannel distribution of content and services.
ASME helps the global engineering community to develop solutions to real world challenges. Founded in 1880 as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASME is a not-for-profit professional organisation that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing and skill development across all engineering disciplines, while promoting the vital role of the engineer in society. ASME codes and standards, publications, conferences, continuing education and professional development programs provide a foundation for advancing technical knowledge and a safer world.
