American Physical Society launches PRX Intelligence: new open access journal on AI and machine learning in physical sciences -

The American Physical Society (APS) has announced the launch of PRX Intelligence, a new open access journal dedicated to publishing manuscripts on artificial intelligence and machine learning methods and their applications in advancing scientific understanding.. The journal will begin accepting submissions in February 2026.

Positioned as a highly selective title, PRX Intelligence aims to serve a multidisciplinary research community at the intersection of AI and scientific discovery. The journal will cover theoretical, simulations, and experimental work across physics, computer science, mathematics, engineering, materials science, chemistry, biology, and earth and environmental sciences. It will offer multiple formats, including research papers, reviews, tutorials, and perspectives. All article publication charges will be waived for submissions accepted in 2026.

PRX Intelligence builds on the foundation of Physical Review X (PRX), APS’s flagship open access journal, and joins a growing family of high-impact open access titles such as PRX Quantum, PRX Energy, and PRX Life. APS aims to bring the same rigorous editorial standards and peer review process to the new journal.

The editorial team will be led by Anatole von Lilienfeld, professor at the University of Toronto and Canada CIFAR AI Chair at the Vector Institute. He will be supported by deputy editors Nicola Marzari (University of Cambridge), Benjamin Nachman (Stanford University), and Ann Lee (Carnegie Mellon University). Together, they will guide the journal’s direction, uphold editorial standards, and engage AI/ML-focused research communities.
