The American Psychological Association and IReL, a consortium of Irish higher education institutions, have reached a ’read and publish’ agreement that will combine reading access to APA journals with immediate open access publishing for IReL authors.
The two-year agreement, which went into effect this month, will offer Irish institutions continued access to APA’s journals while enabling financially sustainable open access publishing for the research community.
Established in 2004, IReL is an e-resource licensing consortium for Irish publicly funded higher education institutions and is hosted by Maynooth University. Since 2020, IReL has signed over 20 open access agreements with publishers, helping to make Ireland a leader in the transition to open access. In addition to its role in licensing, IReL manages the Irish ORCID consortium.
