The American Psychiatric Association (APA) Publishing has appointed Dr. Kathryn Ridout as Editor of Psychiatric Research and Clinical Practice, its quarterly peer‑reviewed journal.
Dr. Ridout is a research scientist with the Kaiser Permanente Division of Research and a senior psychiatrist with The Permanente Medical Group. She has led initiatives to integrate psychiatry with primary care, including improving depression care management, embedding trauma‑informed approaches across care settings, and scaling evidence‑based practices. Her research has focused on precision medicine approaches to depression care, interventions for perinatal populations, treatments for depressive and anxiety disorders, and addressing bias in quality measures. She has more than 20 years of editorial experience and over 75 peer‑reviewed publications.
APA Publishing stated that Dr. Ridout’s appointment marks the next stage in the journal’s development. The organization noted that she would build on the work of founding editor Kimberly Yonkers, M.D., and strengthen the journal’s role in translating psychiatric research into insights that inform patient care, policy, and equity in mental health.
Dr. Ridout explained that the journal’s mission to translate scientific findings into actionable insights aligns with her professional vision. She emphasized that prioritizing clinical utility, equity, and innovation would help shape the future of psychiatric care.
She succeeds Laura Dunn, M.D., who had served as interim editor during the search for a permanent editor. Dr. Dunn will continue to contribute as a member of the Editorial Board.
Psychiatric Research and Clinical Practice publishes open‑access content on all aspects of mental and behavioral health, making its articles freely available to the public.
