The American Psychological Association (APA) will publish the first issue of the new journal Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity in March 2014. This quarterly journal will include empirical research, theoretical and conceptual articles, in-depth reviews of research and literature, clinical case studies, book reviews, and letters to the editor.
While focusing on psychological research, the journal will provide a broad forum for scholarship that examines the multifaceted aspects of sexual orientation and gender diversity. The editors plan to present occasional thematic issues, offering a major article or set of articles on a specific theme of importance to theory, research, or practice.
Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity is the official publication of APA Division 44, the Society for the Psychological Study of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues. Founded in 1987, Division 44 is psychology's focal point for research, practice, and education about the lives of LGBT people.
The founding editor of Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity is Dr. John Gonsiorek, a past president of Division 44 and a former professor of psychology. The senior associate editor is Mark Pope, EdD, also a past president of Division 44 and a professor and chair of the Department of Counseling and Family Therapy at the University of Missouri–St. Louis.
