Apple expected to offer three versions of iPad 2 -

Apple is reportedly planning to offer three versions of the new version of its tablet computer, iPad. Each of these versions will have alternate ways of connecting to the Internet, according to a report from a Taiwanese news website.

The move likely signals Apple's efforts to attract more consumers by providing diverse connection options including combinations of Wi-Fi and the 3G wireless standards of UMTS and CDMA. One of the options is expected to work with Verizon's wireless network, according to the website DigiTimes.

Apple's iPad is seen to have enjoyed record success in 2010 as the first mass produced tablet computer to appeal to the general public. It claimed 95 percent of all sales in the third quarter of 2010 and has sold an estimated 7.5 million units. Apple is now reportedly gearing up a host of improvements and additions for the iPad 2.

DigiTimes, citing 'industry sources' affiliated with upstream component makers, also reported that 60-65 percent of current iPad shipments are equipped with both 3G and Wi-Fi capabilities, as opposed to the current Wi-Fi-only models. The current iPad has both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+3G version at 16GB, 32GB and 32GB capacities.
