Computer and software firm Apple, Inc., US, is reportedly working on a new line of iPhones that are particularly designed to counter cheaper phones using Google's Android platform. Media reports indicate that the company is working on a 'nano' version of its premium product which will be around half the size of the iPhone 4. Also, Apple will continue to work on a new version of the iPhone, which will be sold alongside its smaller version.
According to Bloomberg reports, Apple wants to sell the new model for $200 without requiring the user to sign a contract. Typically, wireless carriers require customers to sign a two- or three-year contract to get a discount on a phone.
With its cheaper mobile, the iPhone and iPad maker will be looking to hit back at the wave of Android products by tapping the mid-market. Analysts predict that 2011 could be the year when smartphones move down into the mid-market, as material costs come down.
