The Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) has received a $6 million grant from Arcadia, a charitable foundation dedicated to promoting open access to knowledge, preserving cultural heritage, and protecting nature. The six-year grant will allow SPARC to continue its efforts in driving policies and practices that ensure the immediate, equitable, and free sharing of research articles and data.
The funding from Arcadia will enable SPARC to advance key initiatives, including research assessment reform, the development of equitable publishing models, and cultivating leadership among early-career researchers in the open access movement. These efforts will help foster structural changes that create a lasting impact on the global shift toward open research.
As a non-profit advocacy organization, SPARC works to promote research and education systems that are "open by default and equitable by design," advocating for accessible knowledge that benefits all. This new grant further reinforces SPARC’s position as a leader in open access initiatives and policy development.
Since 2002, Arcadia has awarded over $1.2 billion to organizations worldwide that align with its mission of promoting open access and preserving the natural and cultural heritage of humanity.
