The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) has appointed DeLa Dos as senior director, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, effective June 7, 2021.
DeLa Dos has over 15 years of experience working in higher education and non-profit settings. Their most recent role was the associate director, Equity at Work, Beloved Community. In this capacity, they provided individualized and personalized support for corporate, non-profit, and higher education clients seeking to create and implement tangible, measurable systemic change in their organizations. Prior to their role with Beloved Community, DeLa served as the inaugural director of Social Justice Education at Emory University.
DeLa also previously served as the director of a multicultural affairs department and as an instructor and adjunct faculty member for undergraduate and graduate programs. In those roles, DeLa developed a nationally recognized educational framework that was used to engage thousands of learners in meaningful exploration of numerous topics, including diversity, inclusion, bias, privilege, oppression, humility, and allyship. They also developed and managed a nationally recognized educational program that explored intersectionality, leadership, and community organizing.
At ARL, DeLa will lead the Association’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion priorities, working with and providing strategic guidance to ARL’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee and Board of Directors. Additionally, DeLa will lead DEI strategies by educating and working with ARL members to address systemic racism in research library culture, policies, practices, and staffing, while demonstrating pathways to structural equity. Furthermore, DeLa will lead the Association’s flagship programs that advance Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in the emerging leadership of research libraries: the Leadership and Career Development Program (LCDP) and the Kaleidoscope Program.
