The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) has announced a new partnership with the Sustainable Libraries Initiative (SLI) to provide all ARL member institutions with a 12-month membership to SLI, along with a discounted rate for the Sustainable Library Certification Program (SLCP). This partnership is set to last until December 31, 2025, with the possibility of renewal.
The Sustainable Libraries Initiative is dedicated to helping library leaders create sustainable libraries and communities that can thrive in the years to come. Through the SLCP and its community of practice, SLI aims to guide libraries in becoming more environmentally responsible, socially equitable, and economically viable.
As part of this collaboration, ARL member institutions will gain access to a variety of exclusive SLI resources, including the Road Map to Sustainability, a vendor list, on-demand webinars, and discounted or complimentary access to the SLI-ALA eCourse on Sustainability. Additionally, members will have the opportunity to participate in the Climate Action Lab for Libraries. SLI will offer ARL members a 20% discount on individual certifications through the SLCP and a 25% discount for groups of five or more libraries.
ARL plans to share more details about SLI and SLCP through its communication channels in the coming weeks, including two kickoff webinars aimed at introducing both initiatives. ARL member representatives will also have the chance to engage with SLI leadership during an upcoming Association Meeting.
This partnership underscores ARL's commitment to promoting sustainable practices within library systems and supporting member institutions in their sustainability efforts. By providing valuable resources and tools, ARL and SLI aim to empower libraries to lead the way in environmental stewardship and community engagement.
