The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), US, has launched its third journal, Translational Vision Science & Technology (TVST), with an open call for manuscript submissions this month. TVST is an online only, peer-reviewed journal emphasising multidisciplinary research that bridges the gap between basic research and clinical care.
The new journal, to be published in English, will accept manuscripts by scientists and clinicians with diverse backgrounds. This could range from basic chemistry to ophthalmic surgery, bringing together research that, until now, often has been published in journals other than those directly related to ophthalmology.
Marco Zarbin, MD, PhD, FARVO, has been named TVST's editor-in-chief. Dr. Zarbin is the chair of the Institute of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, New Jersey Medical School and chief of ophthalmology at University Hospital in Newark, NJ. The aim behind the journal is to create a venue in which innovations can be subject to rigorous peer review and - having been strengthened by that process - make their way into the public domain and directly to the attention of an appropriate audience of fellow innovators and potential scientific and business partners.
Dr. Zarbin is joined by a team of associate editors and editorial board members from across the globe in publishing the new journal, which will cover a broad spectrum of work. These include applications of stem cell technology for regenerative medicine, development of new animal models of human diseases, and tissue bioengineering.
