Global standards organization ASTM International has announced that Katharine Morgan, who has served as president since 2017, has informed the Board of Directors of her intention to retire. After nearly 40 years with ASTM International, Morgan will step down from her position, leaving behind a legacy of impactful leadership and a commitment to advancing global standards.
In a personal message featured in the latest issue of ASTM's flagship magazine, Standardization News, Morgan expressed her gratitude and reflected on her time as president. She stated, "It truly has been my privilege to serve as president of this impactful organization for the last six and a half years, and I can say with confidence that for ASTM, the future is full of promise and opportunity." Morgan highlighted ASTM's strong position to fulfill its mission and expand its relevance and service to an increasingly reliant world. She expressed her anticipation for the transition period and the arrival of a new president who will lead ASTM forward.
Morgan's journey with ASTM began in 1984 when she joined as a staff manager. Over the years, she assumed roles of increasing responsibility in standards development, eventually becoming vice president of technical committee operations. In 2014, Morgan was selected as ASTM's president and officially assumed the role in 2017, following her tenure as executive vice president.
To initiate the process of finding ASTM's next president, the executive committee of ASTM's Board of Directors has begun the search and will engage a search firm to manage the initiative. John Logar, the past chair of ASTM's Board of Directors, will lead the selection committee for the search firm as well as the search committee for the next president. The goal is to identify a new leader who will build upon ASTM's history, brand, and culture while executing the organization's mission, serving its members, and fostering future growth.
ASTM International is confident that the transition process will ensure a seamless handover of leadership and set the stage for continued success in driving global standards and innovation.
