At its spring 2025 meeting, the Board of Directors of the Association of University Presses (AUPresses) reaffirmed its commitment to the principles and mission of the Coalition for Diversity and Inclusion in Scholarly Communications (C4DISC), an initiative it helped establish. This renewed endorsement reflects AUPresses’ ongoing dedication to fostering a scholarly communications community that prioritizes equity, inclusivity, and social justice.
The Association emphasized the importance of upholding these values, especially at a time when terms such as “equity” and “inclusion” are being misrepresented or restricted in certain contexts. Despite these challenges, AUPresses maintains that such principles are foundational to academic excellence and the responsible advancement of knowledge.
As pressures mount on institutions and individuals facing limitations on language and expression, AUPresses reiterated that university presses remain steadfast in their role as stewards of scholarship. Through their commitment to intellectual rigor and inclusive practice, these presses will continue to promote deeper understanding and greater access to diverse perspectives in research and publishing.
