Baker & Taylor, Inc., a US-based distributor of physical and digital books, has announced an agreement with STM publisher Elsevier to provide highly-formatted content on Blio. Created by knfbReading Technology, Blio is an e-reader software application powered by Baker & Taylor.
By leveraging relationships with the publishing community and its digital technology partners LibreDigital and knfbReading, Baker & Taylor seeks to increase the content offered on Blio. With over 44,000 customers across 120 countries, the company claims to have a global reach that allows it to provide enhanced content management and distribution for the e-reader application.
By the end of the year, Elsevier plans to launch 8,000-9,000 titles, including titles within its life science, physical sciences and professional lists. The company’s Focal Press has plans to introduce enhanced titles with embedded media on Blio for its post production list, including titles with 3-D effects.
Blio, featuring print-to-speech (for rights-enabled titles) and full-colour 3-D technologies, was created by Ray Kurzweil. It is projected to deliver a highly advanced, flexible and open reading platform. Blio is also hardware neutral, meaning it works on a number of devices, including personal computers, laptops, netbooks and iPhones, apart from up and coming tablets.
