Barbara Preece joins OCLC Board of Trustees -

Barbara Preece, Director, Loyola Notre Dame Library, officially took her seat on the OCLC Board of Trustees during the Board's November meeting. She was elected to the Board by OCLC Global Council in April 2015.

Loyola Notre Dame Library, located in Baltimore, Maryland, serves Loyola University Maryland and Notre Dame of Maryland University. Preece served previously as Dean of the Library, California State University San Marcos; Executive Director of the Boston Library Consortium, Inc.; Interim Associate Dean of Technical and Automated Services at Southern Illinois University Carbondale; and Head of Technical and Automated Services at the Shawnee Library System in Illinois.

She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) and the Maryland Digital Library Board. She served as Chair of OCLC's Americas Regional Council and President of the OCLC Global Council.

Preece began her four-year term on the OCLC Board on November 16. She succeeds Brian Schottlaender, The Audrey Geisel University Librarian, University of California, San Diego Libraries, whose term expired. Schottlaender served for five years on the OCLC Board.

The OCLC Board of Trustees guides the vision of the cooperative, shaping OCLC's strategy and goals. It also fulfills the fiduciary duty of protecting OCLC's shared assets and investments. In addition, the Board is responsible for recruiting and working with the OCLC President and CEO, and for monitoring the cooperative through a dedicated audit process. There are currently nine librarians on the 14-member Board of Trustees.
