The Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) and Wiley have renewed their open access publishing agreement, extending benefits for researchers through December 31, 2027. The updated terms are designed to maintain publishing opportunities while providing universities with a more predictable framework for managing costs.
Under the agreement, corresponding authors affiliated with Penn State and other BTAA institutions can publish an unlimited number of articles in Wiley’s hybrid journals at no cost, provided the manuscripts are editorially accepted and author agreements are completed by the end of 2027.
For Wiley’s fully open access journals, articles must be submitted by August 31, 2026, to qualify under the agreement. Submissions made by that deadline will be covered if the corresponding author is affiliated with a BTAA institution at the time of acceptance. Articles submitted after that date may require authors to pay article processing charges.
The agreement continues to provide BTAA researchers with full reading access to Wiley’s journal portfolio and ensures perpetual access to subscribed content. Penn State officials indicated that the arrangement supports both open access publishing and responsible financial stewardship by helping manage publishing expenditures while maintaining broad access to scholarly resources.
