The Biochemical Society and Vanderbilt University’s Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries have formalized a new open access agreement that enables unrestricted, fee-free publishing for Vanderbilt researchers in all Biochemical Society journals, published by Portland Press. The arrangement also includes full read access to the Society’s journal portfolio, supporting both publishing and discovery across the molecular biosciences.
The agreement provides corresponding authors at Vanderbilt with an immediate route to publish open access without article processing charges, removing financial and administrative barriers that often constrain research dissemination. With no cap on the number of eligible articles, the partnership facilitates a streamlined publishing process while ensuring the global visibility of institutional research.
This development supports shared goals to advance sustainable and equitable open access models. By eliminating publishing fees, the agreement helps researchers conserve grant funding for core research activities while also broadening the reach and impact of their scholarship. The inclusion of full access to journal archives further enhances the utility of the agreement, allowing institutional users to engage with both current and historical literature in the biosciences.
The collaboration was facilitated through Accucoms and is now in effect. It forms part of an expanding set of initiatives designed to reduce barriers to publishing and improve access to scientific research.
