Open access (OA) publisher BioMed Central has announced that its journals BMC Biology, BMC Ecology, BMC Evolutionary Biology and Frontiers in Zoology are now welcoming manuscripts that have been reviewed through the community peer-review initiative Peerage of Science.
The initiative aims to not only bring greater accountability and openness to the traditional peer review process, but also to reward reviewers for the quality of their reviewing. By decoupling from journals the process of finding and assessing reviews, the founders hope to be able to create a more efficient experience for researchers as they try to find a suitable home for their research.
Further details about BioMed Central's support of this new service can be found on the BMC-series blog, 'Supporting a new way to peer-review'. Authors wishing to take advantage of this process should indicate clearly in their covering letter if their manuscript has previously been reviewed through Peerage of Science.
